Increasing its space race against America, China has launched its new Moon mission program on Friday, May 3. Under this mission, China has launched its powerful rocket (Long March-5 Y8). If this program is successful in achieving its goal, China will become the first country in the world to bring samples from that part of the Moon which is never seen from Earth.

In fact, all the rockets that have reached the Moon so far have reached only the part closest to the Earth (which is visible to us). But China has set a target of landing its rocket Long March-5 Y8 on South Pole-Aitken Basin, which is one of the three largest and major land parts of the Moon and its scientific value is also very high.

The mission can last for 53 days

According to the Chinese Space Agency, this mission is expected to last for 53 days, in which the Chang'e-6 robot will reach the dark area of the Moon and collect two kilograms of samples from there. This will include things like moon soil and stones.

China aims to send humans to the moon by 2030

In fact, India's neighboring country China has set a target of sending humans to the moon by the year 2030 and now this mission is also a part of achieving the same target. At present, the rocket sent by China will revolve around the Earth's orbit for a few days and then move towards the Moon.

What is Chang'e-6?

According to a CNSA report, the Long March-5 Y8 rocket will take Chang'e-6 to the Moon. Chang'e-6 is a spacecraft, which has 4 parts. Orbiter, Lander, Ascender and Returner.
  • Orbiter- This will take the remaining three parts of the mission to the moon.
  • Lander- That part of the mission that lands on the surface of the moon. Chang'e-6 lander will land on the Moon's Aitkin Basin crater and this crater was formed 4 billion years ago. After this the lander will collect dust and stones from the lunar surface.
  • Ascender- It will take samples from the lander and send them to the orbiter.
  • Returner- This is the part which will reach the earth with all the samples.

Pakistan's orbiter also included in China's moon mission

CNSA has announced that the Chang'e-6 mission will have scientific instruments from France, Italy and European Space Agency/Sweden on the lander and a Pakistani payload on the orbiter. Along with this, this is the first time that China has included the orbiter of evergreen ally Pakistan in its Moon mission.

Why is the mission named Chang'e-6?

Actually, this project has been named after the Chinese Moon Goddess (Changa). China is hoping that Chang'e-6 can retrieve samples from the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the far side of the moon. According to NASA, this area of the Moon is one of the largest and oldest places in the solar system.

What is the far side of the moon?

The far side of the Moon is that part of the Moon which is away from the Earth. Due to darkness in this area, sometimes it is also called the dark part of the moon. China plans to launch the relay satellite Qiqi Or-2, or Magpie Bridge-2, during the first six months of 2024 to support communications between the far side of the Moon and Earth, according to a report by Chinese state media Xinhua. Is making.

Competition between China and America regarding moon mission

Actually, there is a competition between China and America regarding the lunar mission. China and America are launching lunar missions one after the other. In the year 2019, China's 'Chang E-4' mission successfully landed on the moon. After this, China has also launched 'Chang E-5' in the year 2020, which successfully returned with 1.73 kg of lunar regolith from near the Moon. However, the parameters of China's 'Chang E-6' mission are more ambitious and scientifically more complex. Its four different spacecraft have been targeted to successfully bring back up to 2 kilograms of regolith from the Moon.

Where are China and India in the space industry?

ISRO has so far launched 424 satellites from 34 countries in 61 years. Apart from this, India's space agency is the world's number one space agency, which is the king of commercial launching. ISRO has so far launched 123 spacecraft missions, 91 launch missions, 15 student satellites, 2 re-entry missions, three Indian private satellites.

Although China is still far ahead of India. According to a report by the Washington-based think tank Center for Strategic and International, as of March 2020, 13.6 percent of all satellites orbiting the Earth were from China, while India's share in it was 2.3%.
