'If Arvind Kejriwal wants relief...', Delhi HC reprimands petitioner, also fines him
Arvind Kejriwal in Jail: The petitioner had demanded from the Delhi High Court that CM Kejriwal should be granted interim bail till his tenure as Chief Minister. On this the court reprimanded the petitioner.
Arvind Kejriwal News: The High Court on Monday (April 22) rejected the petition seeking relief to Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Also, Delhi High Court imposed a fine of Rs 75 thousand on the petitioner. The High Court said that the petitioner has no direct involvement in this matter.
The High Court said, "Arvind Kejriwal is inside the jail and he himself can file a petition in the court." If he wants any kind of relief, he can file a petition.
Through a PIL filed in the High Court, a demand was made from the court that CM Arvind Kejriwal be granted special interim bail for the remaining tenure of his term.
The petitioner had filed the petition in the name of "We the People of India". He argued that he was not using his name because he did not want any publicity.
Kejriwal's lawyer opposed the petition
Senior advocate Rahul Mehra, appearing for Kejriwal, opposed the petition. He said that this is completely unacceptable. How can such an application be given? Who is this person in this kind of case? This is purely a petition for publicity.
What did AAP say?
After the High Court's comment, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi government minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said, "It was a mischief to file a petition in the Delhi High Court." Arvind Kejriwal's lawyer himself opposed that petition in the court.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by ED on March 21 in the Delhi Excise Policy case. After this, the CM remained on ED remand till April 1. After this the court sent him to judicial custody. Currently Kejriwal is lodged in Tihar Jail. His judicial custody is going to end on April 23.
