CBI registered case against Megha Engineering: Officials of Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited, which was ranked second in the list of those making the highest donations in the electoral bond scheme, have been accused of corruption. A case of corruption has been registered against these officers by the Central Investigation Agency CBI. A donation of Rs 1200 crore was given by this company to political parties through electoral bonds.
CBI has taken action in a case related to alleged corruption in the implementation of a project worth ₹315 crore for NISP. CBI has registered this case against Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited along with 8 officials of NMDC Iron and Steel Plant of the Ministry of Steel.
Meanwhile, recently Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited came into limelight after the data related to electoral bonds came out. This company had emerged as the second largest buyer in the top 10 list of donations to political parties. MEIL, the company of Pamireddy Pichi Reddy and PV Krishna Reddy, had purchased electoral bonds worth ₹966 crore.
The Supreme Court had canceled the electoral bond scheme in February.
It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court, while giving a historic decision in the month of February, had canceled the Electoral Bond Scheme for donations to political parties. After the orders of the Supreme Court, the complete data related to this scheme was handed over by SBI to the Election Commission of India. After this, ECI uploaded it publicly on the website of the Election Commission. After this the complete list of electoral bond buyers was revealed. According to HT report, CBI had received a complaint related to corruption on which action was taken. Allegations were made in the complaint that 8 officers of NISP/NMDC and 2 officers of MECON Limited had taken bribe in return for the payment made by NMDC to Megha Engineering and Industrial Limited.Tags:
