OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R price difference is Rs 25,000 but how are they different in specs and features?

OnePlus has officially released the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R in India. Of the two, OnePlus 12 belongs to the top tier, while OnePlus 12R appears like a flagship-killer. So how are the two phones different?

In Short

  • The OnePlus 12 series has been launched in India.
  • The OnePlus 12 price in India starts from Rs 64,999.
  • The OnePlus 12R price in India starts from Rs 39,999.

If you are a tech enthusiast, you probably watched OnePlus announce two of its newest phones in India on Tuesday night. These phones are called the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R. As tech enthusiasts, you will also be aware from their names that these two phones fall into different categories, even though they are both high-end and premium phones because they are part of the Series 12.

The OnePlus 12 is the phone that can be considered the absolute latest and greatest from the house of OnePlus; it is up against the likes of the iPhone 15, Pixel 8, and Galaxy S24. However, there are some obvious differences that the name itself suggests. The phone belongs to the ultimate high-end category according to OnePlus, as indicated by the XX series.

The OnePlus 12R, on the other hand, is a more reasonably priced flagship killer that runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The OnePlus 12 features up to 16GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

The OnePlus 12 is priced at Rs 64,999 in India, while the OnePlus 12R is priced at Rs 39,999 for its base form, resulting in a 25,000-rupee pricing differential!

Rs 25,000 is a lot of money, and many consumers will be questioning how the Oneplus 12 and OnePlus 12R have such a huge price difference. They will also be wondering what they will miss out on if they opt to go with the OnePlus 12R.

You need not wonder any longer, as I will outline the main distinctions between the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: Processor

The OnePlus 12 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 engine, which, as I mentioned earlier, delivers lightning-fast performance. The phone also has a plethora of memory and storage options, with 12GB to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage available.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor powers the OnePlus 11 last year, so it is not that slow; rather, it is slower and uses older technology than the Gen 3, which is why the OnePlus 12R runs on it. In my opinion, the Gen 2 will work perfectly well for most users, but if you are the type of person who always wants the newest and greatest, then you should definitely get a phone with the Gen 3 processor.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: Display

The big panels of the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R feature quick refresh rates and high quality.

With a display size of 6.82 inches as opposed to 6.8 inches on the OnePlus 12R, the OnePlus 12 boasts a slightly larger display and a better resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels, while the OnePlus 12R offers 2780 x 1264 pixels.

Both phones, however, include the same 120Hz refresh rate (which can be dynamically modified from 1 to 120 Hz depending on the content), a peak brightness of 4500 nits, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

In addition to resolution, I believe the OnePlus 12 has a cutting-edge display that is punchier and more colorful, but the difference is unquestionably not great enough to warrant paying an extra Rs 25,000 for it.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: Camera

The primary distinction between the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R, despite the fact that it may not seem like much, is the camera hardware. The OnePlus 12 has three rear cameras: a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 64-megapixel telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom. The Periscope lens, which powers the 3X zoom, is a feature that is currently exclusive to high-end phones.

With a 50-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera, the OnePlus 12R also sports a triple rear camera arrangement.

Put another way, it is evident that the OnePlus 12 boasts not just a more sophisticated camera setup than the OnePlus 12R, but it is the only phone out of the two that includes an optical zoom capability.

The OnePlus 12 boasts a 32-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls, while the OnePlus 12R features a 16-megapixel front camera.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: Battery

Large batteries power both the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R. In fact, this department both phones will be similar: the OnePlus 12 comes with a 5,400 mAh battery that supports 100W SUPERVOOC and 50W AIRVOOC fast charging technologies, while the OnePlus 12R has a slightly larger 5,500 mAh battery that also supports 100W fast wired charging.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: Price

It is important to reiterate that there is a significant price difference between the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R. The OnePlus 12 is offered in two variants: 12GB RAM + 256GB storage for Rs 64,999 and 16GB RAM + 512GB storage for Rs 69,999. It is available in two colors, Flowy Emerald and Silky Black.

The OnePlus 12R is available in one color, Cool Blue, and Iron Grey. It comes in two variants: 8GB RAM plus 128GB storage for Rs 39,999 and 16GB RAM + 256GB storage for Rs 45,999.

The OnePlus 12 will be available from January 30, 2024, while the OnePlus 12R will be available from February 6, 2024. Both phones will be offered on Amazon.in, OnePlus.in, and other partner stores in the country.
